Coffee So Much

Sometimes people just end up with (and acquire) the very best collection of qualities.

Like, how you can be frugal but also generous?

Wealthy and thrifty?

A person of few words, but wise, witty and engaging?

Yeah, those kinds of people are the kind of people we're staying with now. Sometimes I wonder how we've dropped into these relationships.

Ray and Kay raised three kids in this area and he (surprising to both of them) rose to a prominent position within one of the Big Four accounting firms in LA. He's traveled the world as a result and they lived abroad for several years as well.

They live modestly but appreciate the finer things in life. Ray has recently taken to coffee roasting. He sources his own beans when in Oakland on business and does the roasting in his garage next to his Lexus.

Every morning when we come down for coffee, he has two coffee mugs filled with warm water sitting next to the coffee maker full of home-roasted, freshly brewed coffee.

Now, this is California so concern about warming mugs is misplaced. However, I'm moved every morning by his generous thoughtfulness, especially from a man of few words.

I love being with people in their own homes. Not only do you relax more, you get to experience your friends in a new light.

I'm happy to be here, happy for the fresh coffee, happy for fresh limes, happy for the sunsets, happy for the canyon hikes nearby, happy to have friends like these.
