Field Work

Therapy day.

Don’t let the dialogue circling in my head start. The goal is to be present in the body, staying below the head:

  • Anchoring in the breath takes in the body
  • Name the emotion
  • If dialogue starts, go back to the body and emotion
  • Invite Spirit/God to come in and be with me in the fear
  • Am I really inviting God in?
  • We know the vibration of the spirit quells all fear

The brain:

  • The brain wants to do something so goes into fight, flight, freeze
  • Brain wants to solve this problem; what has always done
  • Other emotions will emerge; God can talk in that space; who knows what will hear
  • This is what it means in the scripture; count on me, rely on me, bring your fear to me
  • When go into prefrontal cortex, trying to fix it in the ego; aren’t turning to God and True Self
  • Some prefrontal cortext activity when pray, meditate, mindful- grounded thought

Emotional regulation training/what is and how to do it:

  • Using strategies/get regulated then do therapy
  • Couples can regulate each other
  • “Put your oxygen mask on first then help others.” Get yourself regulated first
  • Get in the window first before trying help or be present with anyone else
  • “You seem pretty X. (take some deep breaths). How should we get engaged… laugh, coffee, time off."
  • Don’t say to the brain, don’t problem-solve this… brain does this anyhow
  • Instead stay with body and breath
  • Now going back to the body, if trying to keep going into back into thinking
  • Be compassionate with yourself/ no judgement of self

Doing emotional work will feel the need to ‘do’ something, go do stuff. The left brain is task oriented. You need balance.

Good session with much to ponder. This switch will take considerable energy. I'm very programmed to solve problems related to staying safe.

Being connected to my body will take work.

This will take work and release of old ways of thinking and being.
