Parenting Stuff

I was talking to friends who were making comments about parenting.

I said that this is my basic parenting philosophy: Values + unique people in the family = family culture.

The values keep you on track. The respect for the individuals allows for freedom. Magic!

The key is what the values are. You could write a lot of books about that. But that’s what keeps you focused and consistent. It creates the framework for everything else.

The honoring of each individual person allows the values to be flexible within the context of each person and your family culture. Sometimes, the same value might actually look a little different based on each person or family.

Anyway, it was intriguing to have that sort of come out after all these years of thinking about it and wondering.

The hope would be that sometimes, there are core values that are good for every family to have. It might look different but hopefully, some of the expressions are the same. That creates cohesion in a society as well.
