So Long, Farewell

We had a party today for the senior leader that quit. We tried to make it positive, wish him well. No one is quite sure who will fill his shoes when he's gone though we suspect he didn't do much.

I took him out to lunch for an exit interview, and he was incredibly nervous. The more I consider the resume we hired him under, the more I realize he's faking much of his life. He's running from one thing to another.

He kept emphasizing, today, last week, that it's all good. I'm a saint! I'm walking away with no hard feelings. It's all good. If you ever, EVER, need anything, I'm here for you.

The problem is, compadre, you weren't here for us while you were here.

Why would we ever - EVER - have you back?

Say whatever you have to say to make yourself feel better, because I'm realizing that's what this is about. You have a schtick, a game you play with people, with companies. It works for a while, a month or two, a year? Then it starts to fall apart. You know that, but you don't want people to know. You don't want to believe it yourself.

So yeah, no hard feelings? No, lots of hard feelings. Not bitterness, not hatred. But no good feelings. You let us down. You misled us.

So here's your party. We do that for people. We try to wish them well, send them on their way. Now, get out.

What a long week already.
