Hike It

More time outside, more time with friends. An amazing pattern for recovery and health. Today we visited the El Dorado Nature Center and found a great cafe in Seal Beach.

I look forward to when I feel more in control of myself, my emotions, my feelings. This trip gave us both a break and rest, but we have to go home to hard discussions and situations. I need to learn more about how to control my thoughts and feelings without just getting away and trying to be distracted.

I understand the importance of a break and rest, but I'm with myself 24-hours a day. Long-term, my health has to improve as I continue therapy and understanding the complex topics of mental and emotional health.

I do love California, with all the natural light, white decor and general lightness of the buildings, the homes, the outdoors. White sand, flowing palm trees, light-colored shells. I love our deep, dark forests in the NW, but a break especially in the winter boosts the mood tremendously.

I've noticed that often when we travel, we are needing to recover. What would it be like to go on a trip without that burden to take into the first few days? Leaving on a trip always has a few rough moments where you're rushing to pack and get ready. That's not it. This is the toxic load we drag with us often when we're trying to get away. It definitely feels more like an escape than a retreat.

New goal: vacation like you want to, not like you have to for survival.
