Back Into The Storm

I'm pretty sure we have unhealthy expectations of marriage in the West.

KT told me one time it's pretty unhealthy to assume one relationship, one person, will meet all your needs. How did she get so wise?

As we unravel the mysteries of our partnership and marriage, I want to keep the bar realistic. I want to be healthy in what we're aiming for.

One of our senior leaders is quitting, one of the ones we hired almost exactly a year ago. He called us all into a meeting mid-afternoon. It was a surprise and fairly melodramatic.

I'm letting that sink in. I don't think things are going well with his time here, but I don't fully understand why. I don't know what this means for the other staff he oversees. He seems to have created a camp-like environment that I know Jay feels he cannot challenge. It seems this individual creates loyalty to himself, not our company. My guess is, it's okay he's leaving, but I have no idea what we'll do with his position in his absence.

What a nice present to return home to.

I spent time shopping and getting ready for a board retreat I'm facilitating for a local non-profit. It's run by a good friend of mine. He asked me to be on his board twice, and twice I declined. My main reason is he is a friend, and I see what organizations do to friendships. I'm also sick of being on boards of organizations that I support financially, but not enough to invest dozens of hours on top of that. I keep saying yes and now am saying no. Boundaries, go figure.

I did agree to facilitate this retreat as he transitions board leadership and tries to run things in a healthier manner. I can see his vision and believe I can play a role facilitating the weekend retreat in absence of someone on the board who could do that.

The weather is truly shitty, but I imagine we'll all get out to the condo we're using, the property of some of the friends we just visited in LA.

Life is not boring. Life feels stressful, mostly, but no, not boring.
